Unnata® Aerial Yoga is a new type of Yoga that combines traditional Yoga with the physical training of an Aerial Acrobat

What Happens In a Typical Class?

Students start class on the floor, then progress to using a fabric trapeze (similar to a "hammock") while still standing on the floor, and finally to using the fabric trapeze to dangle only inches from the floor. The slow progression emboldens new students, and reassures returning students so that they can explore new aerial asanas and deeper stretches.

Stretching while floating in the air does not compress the spine, the sensation of which can best be described as inducing a slight giddiness. Instantly, people's moods lighten up, and the class atmosphere becomes playful and explorative. Because these stretches can be felt very deeply, the sensation to the body can be quite intense. As the body adapts and learns how to accept such strong sensations, the releasing of tight muscles and joints happens very rapidly. Therefore, students take turns on the apparatuses so that they can apply their newly found flexibility to the traditional Yoga Asanas, to rest, and also to encourage and be inspired by other students.

Every class ends with a group meditation, so that students can integrate their newly found strength, flexibility and alignment into their daily posture, as well as leave students feeling relaxed, grounded, and more connected to the people around them.
