What is Unnata® Aerial Yoga?
Unnata® Aerial Yoga was created by Michelle Dortignac, certified Vinyasa Yoga Instructor and professional Aerialist. Having been a Yoga Instructor before beginning her training in the Aerial arts, Michelle immediately felt how the two physical practices enhanced each other. She was then inspired to develop this hybrid class, in order to share with the general public the fundamental qualities from both Yoga and Aerial training that uniquely benefit the body. She began teaching Unnata Aerial Yoga classes in January of 2006.
Classes use a low-hanging fabric trapeze to support the weight of the body. Students explore their maximum stretch quickly and without effort, flipping upside-down with ease, putting zero pressure on the head or neck.
Along with intense stretches and deep muscle release, Unnata® Aerial Yoga classes accentuate a light-hearted side of the Yoga philosophy: having fun!
Unnata is the Sanskrit word for "elevated," meaning both elevated in spirit and physically elevated.
How is Unnata pronounced?
The "U" sounds like the "u" in blue and rhymes with zoo, too. The rest sounds like "not," followed by "ahhh."
Put the emphasis on the second syllable; "ooo-NOT-ahh" -- Unnata.
