FAQs

Where can I purchase a hammock?

Michelle recommends one of the following websites to purchase Aerial Yoga hammocks:
www.AerialYogaMN.com
www.TheYogaStudio.biz

How much weight can the hammock hold?

Technically, the maximum load for a hammock is around 1,000 pounds. But, working with the hammock prop can be quite uncomfortable, and therefore not recommended, for students who are around 200 pounds or more.

Where Did Aerial Yoga Come From?

Honestly, the Aerial Yoga that is becoming popular today has been slowly evolving for at least 14 years, and probably longer. I can only speak from my own history of awareness, which is that when I first became certified to teach Yoga back in 1998, there were products being sold in Yoga Journal magazine that would elevate the practicing Yogi off of the ground. Some of the products accentuated their use for inversions, and some of the products (like the Iyengar rope wall) accentuated their use for establishing proper alignment as well as inverting. These two uses of the Yoga hammock (and products like it) have remained the two most popular selling points for practicing Aerial Yoga classes even today, and probably have fueled Aerial Yoga’s rapid growth in popularity around the world.
